2023-24 TCAB Mentor Program Closing Event

Mentors and mentees shared experiences on March 25, 2024

The Technical Writing and Communication Advisory Board (TCAB) concluded the 2023-2024 Mentor Program on March 25th hosting a mentor closing event for all participants. The Mentor Program connects undergraduate and graduate students in Writing Studies degree programs with industry professionals working in fields related to technical writing. Students were paired with their mentors (industry experts and/or alumni) in November and met with them at least twice  through March to discuss topics important to them such as resume work, portfolio creation, technical writing conferences, or other work experiences.

During the closing event mentors and mentees shared insights into their experience, the impact the program had on them, and the important role the relationship had connecting students to current industry expectations and resources. This year, students learned about current trends in the field of technical communication, discussed potential coursework options, and participated in job shadowing exercises. Overall, both mentors and mentees alike found the experience to be rewarding and provided them with valuable knowledge going forward.

We  look forward to hosting the Mentor Program again next year! Visit the Technical Writing and Communication Advisory Board Mentor Program website to learn more about the program
