Schedule appointments at stats.appointments.umn.edu
Typical working hours:
Monday-Friday 8:00 am-4:30 pm
The statistics advisor can be reached by appointment or email. Appointments are available virtually (Zoom or phone) or on-campus.
During peak advising times such as registration, appointments book faster. If you need to see the advisor, make sure to plan ahead. We cannot book same-day appointments. The preferred method for scheduling is the online tool, which reflects the most up-to-date availability and format options.
Major Declaration:
To Declare one of the major program below:
BA in Statistical Practice - Applied Statistics subplan,
BA in Statistical Practice - Data Science subplan, or
BS in Statistical Science.
Students must complete Math 1272 or STAT 3011 or STAT 3021 (or an equivalent transfer course from another institution) with a grade of C- or higher. If you have any questions about major declaration requirements, please do not hesitate to contact the statistics advisor for more information.
Caution! When you declare Statistics major, please follow the Statistics course registration sequences to ensure that you have seat access to the next course in the sequence. Taking courses out of order, or enrolling at another institution to complete prerequisites elsewhere can impact your ability to access seats in courses here. The department is limited on the number of seats in courses and plans according to the sequencing and student enrollments on our campus.
Appointments are best for:
- Major declaration
- Detailed questions about statistics requirements
- Long-term degree planning
- Review of major programs
- Review of transfer credits/credit reevaluation process
Email is appropriate for:
- Minor declaration
- Quick questions
- Schedule checks during registration
- Permission number requests
Questions unrelated to statistics can be directed to your college advising or student services office.
