5. Registration Open for the 58th Annual Minnesota Undergraduate Psychology Conference (MUPC)

7. The Everlasting Legacy of MLK – A Peace of My Mind

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was one of the most influential social activists who led the civil rights movement in the United States from the mid-1950s until his untimely death in 1968. His life was unfortunately cut short, however the legacy he left is everlasting. He continues to inspire generations of people still to this day. This exhibition was created by the organization A Peace of My Mind; a multimedia arts project. They set up their studio at the University of Minnesota and asked, “How is Dr. King’s legacy crucial and relevant today?

9. Connect with Minnesota Youth Conducting Behavioral Health Research

The Minnesota State Science and Engineering Fair is an annual event where hundreds of middle and high school students from across Minnesota present the results of their original research to STEM professionals, gaining valuable feedback. We are currently recruiting judges for the in-person 2024 State Science and Engineering Fair at the St Paul River Centre on Friday, March 22. Click here to register as a grand award judge if you have a background in social science or the STEM field. Even undergraduate students can help as middle school judges! 10. Volunteer to Be A History Day Judge

National History Day in Minnesota, a longstanding partnership between the Minnesota Historical Society and the College of Liberal Arts, needs judges for various regional competitions in March and State History Day which takes place at the Minneapolis Convention Center on April 20 (this event is normally hosted on the Twin Cities campus but there were some challenges to making that happen in 2024). Here is a list of the regional competitions, which include two opportunities on the Twin Cities campus and many others within the Twin Cities. Judges only need an interest in history, be able to interact with young people, have a critical eye, and be able to give constructive feedback. 11. Free Mental Health First Aid Training - Washburn Center for Children

The Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) program educates community members in emotional well-being, de-escalation of crises, and appropriate and safe responses to youth experiencing mental health challenges. After the training, you will know: What to do, how to act, and how to handle when kids are in a high-stress situation or mental health crisis. The different areas of mental health. How to interpret distress in kids, and how to de-escalate and support them. Mental Health First Aid requires a time commitment of a full day, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Learners receive their training during an Instructor-led, in-person session. We will gladly add you to a future session that works better. Free training dates include March 8, 2024, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., April 8, 2024, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., or May 4, 2024, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Washburn Center’s Training Institute on 1100 Glenwood Ave. Course fees are generously covered by a grant from SAMHSA’s Mental Health Awareness Training (MHAT) program. 12. Peer Tutor Support

Peer tutor support is available both in-person and online. In-person tutoring is located in the Walter, Magrath, and Wilson Libraries. Tutors are available on weekdays and on Sundays! Tutor schedules are available here. This short video provides details on how students can search for available courses, view drop-in hours, and schedule appointments. This video is also helpful for staff and faculty who are assisting students with finding a tutor. Peer tutoring is a part of the Academic Success Centers (ASC) at the U. ASC services are an important resource for students. Outside of resources for tutoring, writing, and research, ASC also provides information on online academic support resources, including tips on how to form and facilitate study groups.

13. What is Your “Why”?

The Orientation and Transition Experience Team is seeking additional support in recruiting submissions for the CMU Art Gallery. Each year we host a photo exhibit that showcases what it's like to be a student at the University of Minnesota and to allow students to reflect on their own unique college journey. This year we are showcasing the “Why” behind a student’s motivation to attend the U along with their sense of belonging in our diverse campus community. 14. Let's Talk

Let’s Talk is a program that provides informal virtual and in-person drop-in consultations for U of M students throughout the academic year. No appointment is necessary, so you can drop in during the scheduled times. Let’s Talk is not a substitute for formal counseling and does not constitute mental health treatment, but counselors can listen to specific problems, provide support, help explore solutions, and give information about other resources. Let's Talk is not designed to provide crisis support. If you are currently experiencing a mental health crisis please utilize one of these resources. 15. APA Summer Undergraduate Psychology Experience in Research (SUPER) Fellowships

The American Psychological Association will offer up to 25 fellowships to support college students with a commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion to conduct summer research in a psychological science laboratory. The purpose of this fellowship program is to promote access and equity among psychology undergraduates considering research as a career by expanding opportunities for laboratory training and mentorship to those who have not had the opportunity to access research experiences. Projects must be student-driven and supervised by a faculty member with sufficient resources to support the proposed work. APA will pay a stipend of $4,000 directly to the student and $1,000 directly to the student’s summer faculty host. Stipends are intended to defray personal expenses (e.g., housing, travel) and APA will not provide funds for study expenses, indirect costs, or overhead. 16. PFund Scholarship Application Open!

PFund is now accepting applications for 2024 scholarship funds. From G.E.D. to Ph.D., we support queer students in and from the Upper Midwest pursuing professional or post-secondary education. 17. Obama Voyager Scholarship

Applications for the 2024 Obama-Chesky Voyager Scholarships are now open and are due on March 27. This scholarship is open to students with demonstrated financial need and two years of full-time study left to complete their undergraduate degree program. Scholars will receive up to $25K for each of their two remaining years plus $10K to support a summer work/study/research experience in between. Applicants must have a demonstrated commitment to a career in public service and must have US citizen, permanent resident, or DACA status. The Obama Foundation will award 100 scholarships nationally. This will be the third year for this scholarship and UMTC students have been recipients in each of the previous years. Learn more about the scholarship here.

18. UC Irvine Psychological Science Post-Bacc Program - Application Open

The Department of Psychological Science at the University of California, Irvine is currently accepting applications for their post-baccalaureate program; the deadline to apply for Fall 2024 is April 15, 2024, for domestic students (February 15, 2024, for international students). UCI’s Post-Bacc Program in Psychological Science is a certificate program that combines psychology coursework with research and/or internship experience. It is designed for people who have a bachelor’s degree (in any discipline); who are interested in a psychology-related graduate program, career development, or career change; and who could benefit from additional coursework, research, and/or real-life work experience in psychology. Those interested in a doctoral-level or master’s degree programs in a range of areas of psychology (including clinical/counseling psychology, social/personality psychology, developmental psychology, health psychology, psychology & the law, and school psychology) or health (e.g., public health, medical school) can strengthen their graduate school applications by completing our program, which offers an individualized course of study based on each person’s qualifications and goals. 19. *Credit* PSY 5993: Practices that Support Student Wellbeing and Development - Summer 2024

This 3 credit online class and distance-learning research experience will focus on the psychology of college life with a particular emphasis on college student's mental health and well-being. Dr. Liza Meredith is interested in how faculty and instructors can design and implement college courses so that students can better understand themselves and other people. She is interested in examining how Psychology classes can support mental health, identity development, and appreciation of diversity. Students will gain skills in critical thinking, research design, and data analysis, and there will be content related to how college students change and develop throughout college. There will be two hours of online synchronous meeting time per week (12:30-2:30 pm on Tuesday, with the remaining work completed independently by the students. 20. *Credit* PSY 5993 - Summer 2024

Students will work on a Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Research Project. Through this study, students will gain skills related to conducting a literature review, creating a code book to capture student perceptions and attitudes toward learning, and designing a study. Most work will be completed asynchronously, though occasional Zoom meetings (based on student availability will be necessary to ensure training is complete and to discuss progress on assignments. 21. *Credit or Volunteer* Research Opportunity For a Brain Training Project in Addiction - Psychiatry Department

This volunteer research position will directly assist research staff at the Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences Department. The Department is currently running research studies in the active recruitment phase. Intern responsibilities will include working with databases, verifying the accuracy of study data collected, assisting in MRI, and administering brain training sessions involving transcranial direct current stimulation. This research is under the direction of Dr. Jazmin Camchong. Research participants are patients enrolled in a treatment program for alcohol use disorder and substance use disorder. Qualified candidates must be highly motivated, able to work independently, extremely detail-oriented, and willing to develop new skills as the need arises. Excellent communication (written and oral), organizational, and interpersonal skills; comfortable using basic computer programs such as Google Docs, Microsoft Word, Excel, and web applications (e.g. Zoom and in-house software). Candidates must be pursuing a degree in Psychology or a related field, and be willing to commit 9-10 hours per week for a minimum of 12 months. 22. *Volunteer* Summer & Fall RA Position in Adolescent Psychiatry Lab

Dr. Meredith Gunlicks-Stoessel in the Child & Adolescent Psychiatry Department is looking for undergraduate research assistants. Current research studies focus on interventional treatments for youth with depression and/or non-suicidal self-injury. Students will get hands-on experience with: (1) survey administration using REDCap for data collection procedures with adolescents and parents, (2) interview assessments, (3) data entry, (4) literature reviews, etc. They will also attend a 1 hr biweekly Zoom lab meeting. Candidates must be pursuing a psych or a related degree and be willing to commit 4 hours per week for summer, including some weekday evenings and weekend mornings. Preference will be given to students who can commit to summer and fall semester. 24. Pre-Law Services is Hiring a Peer Advisor

25. Research Interventionist in the Psychiatry Department

We are seeking a part-time Research Interventionist in the Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences at the University of Minnesota Medical School for a new study. The study is a treatment grant targeting internal and external eating cues among children with strong food responsiveness. Interventionists would be tasked with administering four different treatment arms to randomized children (ages 7-12) and parent pairs. Applications are reviewed as they arrive, with the intent to begin interviews in March 2024, so please apply as soon as possible. The position represents an excellent opportunity to gain experience in clinical research and to be trained in both research and clinical tasks. 26. Clinical Research Coordinator Position at the Nathan Kline Institute

The Nathan S. Kline Institute for Psychiatric Research (NKI) is seeking a Research Assistant to work on projects investigating brain function and behavior in obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and related disorders under the direction of Drs. Emily Stern and Mohammed Milad. The person in this position will be involved in organizing and running a foundation-funded fMRI project investigating threat conditioning and avoidance in OCD patients and healthy controls. Assistance with other behavioral and neuroimaging studies being run by the investigators will also be expected. My main duties involve recruiting and screening research participants and running them in psychological experiments both in and out of an MRI scanner. The person will also be involved in data organization and management, data analysis, and administrative lab duties, including assisting with grant and IRB applications and budgeting. The position is intended to start in the Summer of 2024 and a two-year commitment is requested. This is an excellent position for a recent college graduate who wants to obtain research experience in preparation for graduate school. In addition to the primary responsibilities listed below, there would be an opportunity for a motivated individual to be involved in aspects of study design and/or scientific presentations and publications.
