1. Alumni Spotlight: Yuanjie Shen

2. Schedule your Junior/Senior Check-In!

Do you have between 75-90 credits this semester? If so, it's time for your Junior/Senior Check-In! This one-on-one appointment with a psychology advisor will check your progress towards your major to make sure you're on the right track to graduate on time, connect you with career and grad school resources to begin making your post-college dreams a reality, and allow you a chance to give us feedback about your experiences as a psychology major. To set up your appointment, use our online Appointment Request Form.

Scholarships

8. Spring 2022 Psychology Engagement Award - $500!

Are you participating in an unpaid internship this Spring 2022 semester? Or engaging in a learning opportunity that takes you outside of the classroom for a unique experience? The Department of Psychology's Donor Awards for Psychology Undergraduate Engagement is available to support you! The purpose of these awards is to encourage and support psychology majors who engage in learning experiences beyond the University campus and classroom environments (i.e. unpaid internships, volunteer experiences, etc.). Up to three awards of $500 will be offered for Spring 2022. The application deadline is Wednesday, February 9th at 4:00 pm CSTFor details about the awards and application materials, visit our webpage.

9. University-Wide Scholarship Available - A. I. Johnson Scholarship

This scholarship was created to honor Alfred I. Johnson who was a Regent of the University and Speaker of the Minnesota House of Representatives. The selected students commit to completing 400 hours in an off-campus public service internship. This scholarship provides students with a demonstrated interest in public affairs a stipend for their internships. Scholarship amounts may vary from year to year. Applicants must show evidence of a strong interest in public affairs, with an intention to pursue a career or avocational activities in public affairs, including any kind of community volunteer activity, organizing to affect public policy, service on government advisory committees, and service in elective offices. Students are not expected to have an internship confirmed at the time of application but they must obtain a public service internship to receive the scholarship. Financial need will be taken into consideration. This is typically a substantial scholarship! The Department of Political Science manages the A. I. Johnson Scholarship which is open to all enrolled undergraduate students at the University of Minnesota. The online A.I. Johnson scholarship application is available early spring semester for scholarships for the following school year. The application is now live (Google Form)The deadline to apply is 11:59 pm CST on Sunday, February 20th, 2022.

Research

10. Summer Research Institute - Florida Mental Health Institute

The Summer Research Institute (SRI@FMHI) is designed for students interested in building their research skills within the context of substance use and co-occurring disorders to help them prepare for a Senior Thesis and/or graduate school. The SRI@FMHI consists of four components: an independent research project conducted with guidance from a distinguished faculty mentor; research seminars; professional development seminars; and skill-building workshops. The research seminars will complement the research that students are conducting with their faculty mentors. Throughout the 11-week period, students will work intensively with faculty mentors on their research projects. In addition, students will gain experience with research ethics, IRB practices, and will participate in a community rotation to gain experience with substance use services in an area related to their research projects. 11. *Credit or Volunteer* Research Intern For a Brain Neuromodulation Project in Addiction - Psychiatry Department

The research intern will assist research staff at the Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences Department. The Department is currently running a research study that is in the active recruitment phase. Intern responsibilities will include working with databases, verifying the accuracy of study data collected, and entering data. Additional responsibilities may include assessing participants using transcranial direct current stimulation and assisting in brain imaging sessions, depending on experience and ability. This research is under the direction of Dr. Jazmin Camchong. The patient population includes patients enrolled in a treatment program for alcohol use disorder and opioid use disorder. Qualified candidates must be highly motivated, able to work independently, extremely detail-oriented, and willing to develop new skills as the need arises. Excellent communication (written and oral), organizational and interpersonal skills; comfortable using basic computer programs such as Google Docs, Microsoft Word, Excel, and web applications. Candidates must be pursuing a degree in Psychology or related field, and be willing to commit to 9-10 hours per week for 12 months (hours are usually between 2 pm and 6 pm). 12. *Credit or Volunteer* Autism Mentorship Program (AMP) Research Assistant

Drs. Lindsey Weiler, Rebekah Hudock, and Meredith Gunlicks-Stoessel are looking for undergraduate students to join their Autism Mentorship Program (AMP) research team. The AMP research team is an interdisciplinary group comprised of faculty and students from the College of Education and Human Development and the School of Medicine. For the upcoming semester, we are looking for students who are interested in community engagement and supporting the diversity, equity, and inclusion goals of the Autism Mentorship Program. Tasks will involve coordinating advisory board meetings, supporting workshops, and assisting the lead graduate assistant, Nathasha Chandrasekharan from the School of Social Work. Undergraduate research assistants may also help with program monitoring, conducting parent and child interviews, collecting and managing observational and survey data, and more. Undergraduate research assistants work closely with graduate students and faculty to learn about social science research. The ideal applicant will be able to dedicate at least 5 hours/week for at least a year and be available on Thursdays from 230-4 PM starting in Spring semester 2022. 13. *Credit or Volunteer* Autism Clinical Research Lab Clinical Research Coordinator

The Autism Clinical Research Lab at the Masonic Institute for the Developing Brain (MIDB) is looking for a clinical research coordinator to volunteer in our lab. Our research focuses on clinical outcomes from a variety of treatment programs implemented with children, adolescents, and young adults with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and related neurodevelopmental disorders (including anxiety, ADHD, learning disorders). Responsibilities of this position may include administration and scoring of surveys and other assessments, data entry and management, preparation of treatment and research materials, and other tasks as assigned. Coordinators are also welcome to participate in preparation of academic presentations and publications according to experience and capacity. Opportunities for credit may be available. Preference will be given to students who can commit to a year in our lab. 15. Discover Dental School: Preparing to Apply Program Application

The University of Minnesota School of Dentistry will be hosting the Discover Dental School program for predental students Wednesday, June 1 - Wednesday, June 22, 2022. The program will run part-time, with some sessions occurring during the day (around lunchtime, if possible) as well as evenings and/or weekends - to enable more prospective dental students to participate who may already have summer plans. This program is free for participants! The exact format of the program is still TBD, plan for a hybrid experience. Students selected to participate in this program will be provided with training, resources, and experiences to strengthen their skills and assist them in creating a competitive application to dental school. Experiences will include DAT prep, connecting with current dental students, and hands-on activities. The application deadline is Sunday, March 6, 2022, @ 11:59 pm CST - no late or incomplete applications will be accepted/considered. 17. Autism & Neurodevelopment Clinic Trainees – Evidence-Based Therapies

The Autism and Neurodevelopment Clinic at the Masonic Institute for the Developing Brain (MIDB) is looking for students who would like to gain experience in evidence-based therapies as volunteer trainees in our clinic. Our clinic provides group therapies to address social skills, anxiety management, and the transition to adulthood. On a less frequent basis, we also offer art therapy and parent coaching for parents of children with ADHD. Trainees would gain experience working with children, adolescents, and young adults (ages 8-25) with autism spectrum disorder and/or related neurodevelopmental conditions (e.g., anxiety, ADHD, depression) and their caregivers. Responsibilities of this position may include preparation of treatment materials, co-facilitation of therapy groups, writing of clinical progress notes, and other tasks as assigned. Opportunities for credit may be available. We ask that students commit to 5-10 hours/week in our clinic. Preference will be given to students who can commit to at least a year of training. 18. Clinical Research Associate I - University of Nebraska

The Warren Neuroscience Lab at the University of Nebraska Medical Center is currently accepting applications for a clinical research associate. The research associate will work with the principal investigator (PI) and the research team to develop, implement, coordinate, and conduct scholarly research projects. Dr. David E. 23. Behavior Therapist - Behavioral Dimensions

Behavioral Dimensions provides intensive services to children with autism and related conditions. We are currently hiring undergraduate, college graduates, and graduate students from colleges and universities studying in a wide variety of human services fields. We at Behavioral Dimensions believe that the experiences we can offer students give them excellent opportunities to apply what they are learning in the classroom to real-life situations. Students will learn how to implement research-based behavioral techniques to teach young children a wide variety of skills as well as how to prevent and respond to challenging situations. Students receive many hours of training and support by professionals from several different disciplines, all with experience and training in Applied Behavior Analysis. Many jobs in the human services field require a degree, internship, and experience in order to be hired. We can assist in providing the required hours of experience and the internship while students are completing their degrees. All of our services are provided in the families’ homes, so we are able to place employees close to their homes throughout the metropolitan area. In some cases, we are able to provide the training and supervision required for specific internships and practicums.
