Coffee and Career Connections: Nonprofit IndustryTuesday, May 25th, 2021, 8:45 am- 10:00 am CST In this panel, we will meet with alumni from the field of nonprofit who will speak about their career paths and give advice for pursuing a career and/or advancement in their respective fields. We have about 20 minutes for QA from the Audience, followed by 20 minutes of networking in breakout rooms. Participants will have the option to turn their cameras on. We will end recording after the QA portion, the breakout rooms will not be recorded. RSVP and learn more. 4. Courses of Interest5. PSY 4960-001: Advanced Topics in Quantitative Methods: R Programming - Fall 2021 (3 credits)Conducting psychological research involves collecting data, but what happens next? Completing research projects involves more than just analyzing data! In this course, we will learn about the research pipeline and how to incorporate Open Science practices to generate reproducible and transparent analyses. Specifically, students will learn both basic and advanced R programming to carry out data cleaning, analyses, and visualization. Finally, students will learn how to share their code and data via GitHub. A large component of this course will involve hands-on programming that will culminate in an independent final project. It is strongly suggested that students take PSY3801: Introduction to Psychological Measurement and Data Analysis prior to taking this course, but it is not required. PSY 4960-001 is Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9:45 am- 11:00 am CST, room TBD Instructor: Dr. Amanda Woodward Note: this course counts as elective credit for the Psychology majors. Research6. *Credit or Volunteer* Asian, Female RAs Needed for Online Race and Gender StudyResearch assistant needed for an online study (for credit or volunteer). Positions open for Summer and Fall 2021 with the possibility to continue into Spring 2022. Preference is given to those that can be available for all three terms. PROJECT: My dissertation is focused on the psychophysiology of social evaluation. A component of this research concerns the role of race and gender in social interactions. As such, we are seeking, in particular, female-identifying RAs of color to facilitate some aspects of the study design. All work will be able to be completed virtually, provided some basic requirements, such as having a quiet, private place to work and stable internet connection. Must have afternoon availability. Because this experiment investigates the role of race and gender, female-identifying RAs of color are needed for several of the available positions, in order to ensure the scientific validity of findings. Any interested applicants may email Keira Leneman at lenem001@umn.edu to get more information about the study and research assistant roles. 7. *Credit or Volunteer* RA Position with a Longitudinal Study of Resilience in Military Service MembersThe Advancing Research on Mechanisms of Resilience (ARMOR) Project, under the direction of Drs. Melissa Polusny and Christopher Erbes at the Minneapolis VA Health Care System, is looking for research assistants for the 2021-2022 school year! The current longitudinal study examines processes contributing to resilience in military personnel. Research assistants who join the ARMOR Project will receive extensive training and gain hands-on experience conducting a large cohort study that utilizes evidence-based longitudinal tracking and survey methods. This is a volunteer position and requires a 10-12 hours per week commitment onsite at the Minneapolis VA and attendance at our weekly lab meeting. Students accepted to the lab can receive research credit for the course PSY 4993. Preference will be given to students who are available year-round, and those able to make a multiple-semester commitment. Veterans or those with experience working with veterans or the military may be given priority. Quatrefoil Library 2021 ScholarshipThe Quatrefoil Library College Scholarship is a one-time, $1,000 scholarship open to all high school seniors or college students who are/will be attending college within the State of Minnesota. Applications are now live and open through June 1! Camp Ignite is a virtual summer boot camp designed for professionals with 1.5+ years of experience, focused on MBA preparation and readiness. UMN Libraries Student Advisory BoardWe are recruiting students to join the new UMN Libraries Student Advisory Board for the 2021-2022 school year. It will be the undergraduate student leadership team of the UMN Libraries and students will be paid a $500 stipend. Board members represent the student body and share feedback on library spaces, collections, and services. Board members also work with librarians and library staff on student engagement and outreach projects. We will recruit and interview virtually over the summer and the Board will start in the fall. Biological Sciences Laboratory Technician in The Bunney Lab at the Minneapolis VAThe Bunney lab is interested in taking what we know about drugs of abuse and addiction to inform the treatment and understanding of obesity. The current focus of the lab is to evaluate minor tobacco alkaloids, which are similar in composition, neural activation, and behavioral effects to nicotine, as potential pharmacotherapies for obesity. The laboratory technician will conduct research on the behavioral, neural, and physiological basis of obesity and addiction. They will be involved in the daily operations of the laboratory, including miscellaneous administrative duties and the management of research project expenditures. They will be expected to independently perform a variety of standardized tests and routine procedures, many of which are covered by established methods, procedures, and techniques.
