1. Psychology Engagement Award - Summer Applications Now Open

Are you taking classes & volunteering in your community this summer? The Department of Psychology's Donor Awards for Psychology Undergraduate Engagement are available to support you! The purpose of these awards is to encourage and support enrolled psychology majors who engage in unpaid learning experiences beyond the University campus and classroom environments (i.e. unpaid internships, volunteer experiences, or a study abroad containing a psych-related internship). Up to two awards of $500 will be offered for Summer 2024. The application deadline is Monday, June 17th. For details about the awards and application materials, visit our webpage.

2. Spring 2024 Sentience Vol. 26 is Now Available

Sentience is an online academic journal for papers describing research in Psychology that are written by undergraduate students at the University of Minnesota. Sentience provides opportunities for undergraduate students to gain first-hand experience in all phases of the scientific publication process. The Bell Museum will once again be celebrating the scientific contributions of the LGBTQIA+ community at the University of Minnesota, in partnership with the College of Food Agricultural, and Natural Resource Sciences (CFANS), the College of Science and Engineering (CSE), the School of Medicine, the School of Nursing, the School of Public Health, the College of Veterinary Medicine, and the UMN Office of Equity and Diversity. We will celebrate Pride and showcase the work of LGBTQIA+ scientists at the Spotlight Science: Sci Pride event at the Bell Museum on Saturday, June 29, 2024, 10 am - 2 pm. We invite LGBTQIA+ students, faculty, and research staff across the University to share their science through fun, hands-on activities and demonstrations at this all-ages open-house event. 5. Disabled Realities Workshop: We need your help, but we don't need saviors

A virtual workshop exploring from lived experience how saviorism harms the disability community and how to help meaningfully. The focus will be on how our rights, opportunities, and laws are shaped by perceptions of disability, and by the efforts of pre-disabled saviors and white saviorism. 6. Disabled Realities Workshop: Crip Rage

This workshop will explore the systematic and personal barriers that disabled people face and how we continue to resist through peace and rage, highlighting the Crip movement. Advice for practitioners on avoiding tone policing and addressing anger without repressing it will be shared, along with how to encourage feeling and expressing rage with the wide range of emotions we experience. 7. PSY 3051-002: Introduction to Cognitive Psychology- Fall 2024 (3 credits)

Scientific study of the mind in terms of representation and processing of information. Research and theory on cognitive abilities such as perception, attention, memory, language, and reasoning. Aspects of computational modeling and neural systems. PSY 3051-002 will be available on Schedule Builder starting Wednesday, May 29th.

PSY 3051 will meet on, Mondays and Wednesdays, 2:30 pm- 3:45 pm CST. Details about course location will be included on Schedule Builder.

8. Think Like a Researcher Mini-Course

University Libraries, in partnership with the Office of Undergraduate Research, is offering "Think Like a Researcher," an online mini-course to help undergraduate students become comfortable with the skills and tools needed to participate in a variety of research opportunities. The Think Like a Researcher mini-course is designed to help undergraduate students learn about the wide variety of ways to get started with research including volunteering, taking a course, applying to the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP), and more. The workshops are free and open to all U of M undergraduate students. Those who want to participate are asked to complete a short registration form. The Canvas course will include a mix of videos, short activities, and discussion posts. In total, the online course will take about 2-3 hours to complete on your own timeline. 9. Apply for the Sharon L. Doherty Student Leadership Award

The Sharon L. Doherty Student Leadership Award is given to a University of Minnesota student who has demonstrated outstanding volunteer service concerning women's and/or gender equity issues on campus or in the broader community. A $1000 award will be given to the recipient. The recipient is recognized via the Women's Center media channels and/or at other virtual recognition events hosted by the Women's Center. University of Minnesota undergraduate, graduate, or professional students enrolled at least half-time with at least two semesters remaining until graduation (for example, applicants submitting an application due in June 2024 must be graduating no earlier than May 2025). Recipients must use their award before graduation. Nominated students must demonstrate outstanding volunteer contributions, including the degree to which involvement has addressed women's and/or gender equity issues, particularly on campus. 12. 2024 Diversity in Psychology Program (DPP)

The application for the 2024 Diversity in Psychology Program (DPP) is now open! Individuals interested in pursuing doctoral study in psychology are invited to apply to the 2024 Diversity in Psychology Program (DPP) by August 25, 2024. Our program is designed to improve transparency about the graduate application process and reviewer expectations, connect participants to supportive resources, and share information about doctoral programs in psychology at the University of Minnesota. 13. The NextGen Psych Scholars Program is Recruiting

NextGen Psych Scholars Program is opening recruitment for 2024-2025! Please sign up if you hope to be a mentee or mentor for the next year. Please also share widely with your friends/professors/casual acquaintances! The goal of the NextGen Psych Scholars Program (NPSP) is to cultivate long-term support structures between diverse undergrad or post-baccalaureate mentees and current graduate students and post-docs to 1)embrace and celebrate the unique journeys that have led current graduate students to pursue a PhD and 2) to inspire and empower the next generation of scholars while enhancing feelings of belongingness in academia. In addition to outlining the process of applying to graduate school, a significant amount of time will be spent discussing how to both challenge and navigate the “hidden curriculum” (e.g. networking, advocating for yourself) of academia. Mentees are paired with current graduate students and post-docs to discuss their graduate school plans and workshop application materials. Prospective students at all stages of the process, from contemplation to application, are invited. If you are interested in joining for 2024-2025, please fill out our application by June 15th at 12:00 pm. All are welcome to apply but priority admittance to the program will go towards students from underrepresented groups. Notifications for acceptance into the program will go out by July 1st, 2024.

14. PhD in Behavioral and Community Sciences

The PhD in Behavioral & Community Sciences is an interdisciplinary program that prepares students to conduct research to enhance the quality of life and productivity of individuals with social, emotional, academic, and behavioral challenges (e.g., mental illness, substance use disorders, co-occurring disorders, developmental delays and disabilities, and behavior disorders) and socio-cultural challenges (e.g., poverty, disparities, homelessness). Applicants are encouraged to submit their applications early in order to ensure full consideration for scholarships and other funding opportunities that may have deadlines earlier than the final application deadline. The priority deadline for submission of applications for Fall 2024 admission from domestic and international students is December 15th, 2024. 15. Fall UROP Deadline

The Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP) provides University of Minnesota undergraduates from every college, major, and discipline, the opportunity to partner with a faculty member on research or creative projects. The deadline to apply for a Fall 2024 Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP) award is July 1, 2024. Now that the spring semester has wrapped up, it is a great time to start thinking about your fall research plans! 16. *Volunteer or Credit* Minnesota Center for Eating Disorders Research

The Minnesota Center for Eating Disorders Research (MCEDR) at the University of Minnesota is looking for driven students and recent graduates to volunteer in our lab. MCEDR conducts research on eating and weight disorders and related behaviors, across a broad range of content areas, including identifying and intervening upon risk and maintenance mechanisms of these concerns. MCEDR's volunteer and for-credit research assistants gain exposure to eating disorders and clinical research through their involvement with current research projects and educational seminars. 17. *Volunteer or Credit* RA Position Studying Substance Use in Veterans

Dr. Britt Stevenson in the Personalized Addiction Research and Treatment (PART) Lab at the Minneapolis VA Health Care System is looking for student research assistants (RAs) for September 2024 through August 2025 (1 full calendar year commitment). Dr. Stevenson anticipates launching a study to examine the daily life experiences that contribute to substance use in Veterans with substance use disorder using ecological momentary assessments (EMA) to measure these factors via real-time surveys on Veterans' phones. The study also involves providing Veterans with individualized graphs of their responses and clinical feedback sessions. RAs are integral in setting up surveys, tracking participant data, coordinating directly with Veteran participants, conducting interviews with participants, analyzing data, and interpreting individualized graphs. Dr. Stevenson will provide mentorship and career development guidance. RAs can earn 3 credits for PSY 4993 (9 hours/week) per semester or volunteer (9 hours/week). The position involves both remote and on-site work at the Minneapolis VA. VA hires only US Citizens, but those from historically underrepresented groups in science are strongly encouraged to apply. 18. Join the UMN Libraries Student Advisory Board!

The University of Minnesota Libraries Student Advisory Board is the undergraduate student leadership team of the UMN Libraries. Board members represent the student body and share feedback on library spaces, collections, and services. Board members also work with librarians and library staff on student engagement and outreach projects. 19. Virtual Visit Volunteer Opportunities for Psychology Students

Conversations to Remember is a 501(c)(3) charity whose mission is to combat feelings of isolation and loneliness among senior citizens. We facilitate weekly video calls with senior citizens, including those with dementia, with the goal of creating intergenerational friendships. Young adult college students will engage in virtual visits with senior citizens. These seniors are lonely and are excited to speak with you. Each video call will have 2-3 student volunteers matched with one senior. The calls will be for one hour, at the same time each week. You will only be matched for a call at a time when you are available. You must commit to continuing in the program for at least 4 months. 20. Housing Case Manager

The role of the Housing Stabilization Services (HSS) Case Manager is to assist individuals located in and around the Twin Cities, diagnosed with mental, physical, and developmental disabilities, in finding, and sustaining housing. Some individuals may also suffer from substance use disorders and/or have criminal backgrounds that may make searching and maintaining housing difficult. As the HSS Case Manager, you will hold a caseload of 12-15 clients, with caseloads varying based on need/difficulty. You will meet with the HSS supervisor on a weekly basis to discuss updates and to consult. Primarily, your role will consist of searching for housing on behalf of and with your clients. You will be expected to meet with your clients in their homes, and in the community, and will need to be able and comfortable driving your clients to housing tours, etc. For more information, please visit our careers page. 21. Employment Case Manager

The Employment Specialist will be assisting individuals who have mental, physical, and developmental disabilities and are receiving services through a Medicaid-paid waiver or through Vocational Rehabilitation Services (VRS) to work toward employment. As an Employment Specialist, you will be responsible for a caseload of 13-20 clients whom you will be assisting through the different stages of employment. You may be addressing client barriers to work and exploring what types of employment they would be interested in. You may be working with clients on planning for their employment by defining their work goals, completing benefits planning, and creating work portfolios and resumes. You may be actively seeking employment opportunities with the client, sending in applications and resumes, interview prepping, and bringing clients to interviews. You may also provide on-site job coaching and training, plan for transportation, and assist with communication to employers. This position may include assisting individuals with accessing services to improve or maintain their ability to live more independently so they can focus on employment. This position may also include helping adolescents who are transitioning from school to work, as a part of our Pre-Employment Transition Services program. 22. TMS Technician

PrairieCare is looking for a motivated individual with a background in psychology, or a related field, who is interested in neurotherapeutic interventions! The position involves direct patient experience and working with a team of highly skilled physicians and technicians. It is a full-time, paid position that includes benefits like PTO, 401K, paid holidays off, and cost-effective health insurance. On-the-job training and certification is provided. This is a great opportunity for students graduating this semester who have an interest in working with patients or pursuing medical or graduate school. Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation is an FDA-approved treatment for treatment-resistant depression in adults. The TMS Technician administers TMS treatments under the supervision of a psychiatrist. The TMS Technician sets up the equipment for each treatment, ensures patient comfort, and monitors for safety.
