Alum Haynes Receives Citation of Merit for Exceptional Contributions in Nursing and Mental Health Advocacy

We are pleased to announce that alum Harriett Copher Haynes has received the University of Missouri’s Citation of Merit bestowed by the Mizzou Alumni Association and the Sinclair School of Nursing (SSON) in April 2023. This prestigious award is presented to a graduate who has demonstrated outstanding achievement in the nursing field and substantial contributions throughout their career.

After graduating from SSON, Haynes was offered a spot in the counseling psychology program at the University of Minnesota where she eventually became the director of the counseling services. She placed counseling services at the center of campus and advocated for marginalized students. Being a person of color, nurse, and psychologist made her voice indispensable for people who did not receive adequate access to mental health resources and helped to create programs to improve access.
