Department of Psychology Commits to Change

The Department of Psychology at the University of Minnesota is committed to identifying, addressing, and rectifying social and racial inequity and injustice, a goal which is reflected in our current departmental Strategic Plan. Immediately following the murder of George Floyd, we held a Town Hall meeting and began formulating a plan, which involves listening to and gathering information and recommendations from the primary groups within our department (i.e., graduate students, undergraduate students, staff, and faculty). This information, currently being collected, will be reviewed and synthesized by the Department’s Diversity Committee, which will draft a document articulating short-term and long-term action steps to address the inequities and injustices that exist in our research, teaching, and service/community outreach, which are the components that comprise our core mission. This document will be reviewed and discussed by all stakeholders in the department early in the fall semester, after which the approved action steps will be implemented.

The Department welcomes all feedback during this important process. Email Holley Locher, Chief of Staff (loche007@umn.edu).
