Juan Del Toro Receives Loan Repayment Award From NICHD

Juan Del Toro

Congratulations to Juan Del Toro for receiving a two-year award from the National Institutes of Health's Loan Repayment Program (LRP).

The NIH Loan Repayment Programs (LRPs) were established by Congress to attract and retain highly qualified health professionals in biomedical and biobehavioral research careers. The LRPs counteract the financial pressure associated with student loans by repaying up to $50,000 annually of a researcher's qualified educational debt in return for a commitment to engage in NIH mission-relevant research. Del Toro’s research proposal was selected as a renewal to continue paying off his student loans while Del Toro focuses on conducting research on health disparities, specifically being funded by the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD). His proposal title is "A Within-Family Design Amplifies Adolescents' Resilience Against Ethnic/Racial Discrimination," wherein he proposed to use sibling-fixed effect models to capture parents' parenting practices and their capabilities to instill adolescents of color with resilience against racial/ethnic discrimination.
