Olman Receives Grant from the Engagement Scholarship Consortium

Congratulations to Cheryl Olman for receiving a $4,887 grant from the Engagement Scholarship Consortium (ESC) for “Inquiry Immersion as a Process for Retaining Diverse Students in Science.” ESC’s Engaged Scholarship Research/Creative Activities Grants Program for Faculty awards a limited number of grants to fund one-year projects.

Olman’s grant will partially fund a wilderness immersion experience for the students in Nick Altringer’s science elective class at Murray Middle School, who will be mentored throughout Fall Semester by the students in GCC 3026: Stepping into the gap: how can you support diversity in STEM? will be mentoring. Professor Olman’s co-instructor in this Grand Challenges class and co-investigator on the grant is Bhaskar Upadhyay, an expert in science learning from CEHD’s Department of Organizational Leadership, Policy, and Development.
