OriginNatives: The Growth of a Project

When Jill Fish, PhD, was writing her dissertation she collected a series of digital stories from Native American and Indigenous peoples in and around Minneapolis, St. Paul, and Duluth. One of the many goals of her dissertation was to provide Native Americans with the opportunity to be the author of their own life stories. 75 community members were able to tell stories that often go untold.

Fish's dissertation has now grown into a new form. 68 community members who created digital stories as a part of the initial project consented to share their stories under the new title of OrigiNatives, a digital archive of original stories from Native America. Currently, the website provides information on the project; however, very shortly stories will be released on a regular basis. To receive up-to-date information about OrigiNatives, including the launch of the digital stories, sign up for their newsletter. You can also follow them on Twitter (@OrigiNatives_) and Instagram (@OrigiNatives), where they will encourage the broader public to engage with the digital stories.
