Professor Chris Uggen Named Devah Pager Distinguished Alumni Award Winner
The University of Wisconsin-Madison's Sociology Board of Visitors has selected UMN Sociology Professor Chris Uggen as the 2024 recipient of the Devah Pager Distinguished Alumni Award.
Professor Uggen studies crime, law, and inequality, firm in the belief that sound research can help build a more just and peaceful world. His books include Incarceration and Health in the Age of Mass Incarceration (2022, Oxford) and Locked Out: Felon Disenfranchisement and American Democracy (2006, Oxford). His current projects examine voting rights for people with criminal records, prison reentry, fairness in sentencing, Scandinavian justice, gun violence, and monetary sanctions.
Professor Uggen is a fellow of the American Society of Criminology and a current candidate for President of the American Sociological Association.
