UMN Sociology's New Article in (ASA)'s Journal of Health and Social Behavior

ASA Journal

A new article in the American Sociologoical Assoication (ASA)'s Journal of Health and Social Behavior, "Cumulative Unionization and Physical Health Disparities among Older Adults," features UMN Sociology co-authors PhD Candidate Xiaowen Han, Associate Professor Tom VanHeuvelen, Professor Emeritus Jeylan T. Mortimer, and Bocconi University's Assistant Professor Zachary Parolin.

This in-depth study uses multilevel growth curve models applied to 39 waves of data from the Panel Study of Income Dynamics between years 1970 and 2019 to assess how the accumulated experience of union membership across the entirety of one’s career, or what we term cumulative unionization, affects disparities of general health, functional limitations, and chronic conditions among adults ages 60 and older.

For a deeper dive, listen to the podcast with Xiaowen Han and Tom VanHeuvelen talking about the article.
