The Rachel A. Schurman Social Justice Fund

The Department of Sociology continues to mourn the loss of our friend and colleague Professor Rachel Schurman. The Rachel A. Schurman Social Justice Fund was recently established to honor Rachel's life and work. Rachel was a professor of sociology and global studies who pursued social change  throughout her life. 

Rachel had connections with friends around the world and her life's work in the fields of sociology and global studies made an indelible impact on people across the globe. This fund will be used to honor Rachel's legacy by providing the same type of support and enouragement for students that Rachel provided during her lifetime. The Fund will provide financial support for UMN Sociology graduate students working on social justice topics or issues, with a strong preference for international students. Expenses may include research travel expenses, books, moving/transition costs, and other related expenses.
