Scholarships

The College of Liberal Arts is committed to offering scholarships based on need or merit for incoming freshmen, continuing students, and transfer students. Be sure to check your department for additional scholarship opportunties.

Scholarships are awarded to academically talented:

  • High school seniors who have been admitted to CLA
  • Students enrolled CLA who are pursuing their bachelor’s degree from CLA
  • Transfer students from an outside institution who are entering CLA for fall semester

Incoming Freshman Scholarships 

Incoming freshman scholarships are awarded to academically talented high school seniors who have been admitted to the College of Liberal Arts. The priority application deadline for this four-year award is Thursday, January 15, 2016.

Your early application is strongly encouraged. If your application is completed after January 15, 2016, your award will be considered on a funds-available basis only.

Continuing Student Scholarships

Continuing student scholarships are awarded to academically talented students already enrolled in the College of Liberal Arts. The priority application deadline for this one-year award is Friday, February 12, 2016.

To be eligible, you must be taking courses toward completing your declared CLA major and be planning to receive a bachelor’s degree from CLA. If you receive a reward, you must enroll for a minimum of 30 credits over the supported scholarship year (fall and spring semesters only). You do not need to be enrolled in the University Honors Program to apply.

All scholarships are reserved for students who intend to receive their bachelor's degree from CLA. If you plan to complete your undergraduate studies in a different college (e.g. the Carlson School of Management, the College of Biological Sciences, etc.), you are not eligible to receive a scholarship award from CLA.

Transfer Student Scholarships

Transfer student scholarships are awarded to academically talented students who transfer into the College of Liberal Arts from an outside institution. Scholarships are only awarded in the spring for use during the fall semester of the following academic year. The priority application deadline for this one-year award is Friday, May 13, 2016.

Your early application is strongly encouraged. If your application is completed after May 13, 2016 (including the receipt of your supporting materials), your award will be considered on a funds-available basis only.

To be eligible, you must have completed at least 24, but no more than 90, semester credits when you begin your fall 2016 semester at CLA. If you apply for a transfer student scholarship, you can expect to hear back from us in August 2016.

CLA Internship Scholarships

CLA Internship Scholarships are awarded to undergraduate students who are participating in an unpaid internship off-campus. Scholarship awards for spring, summer, and fall internships are one-time and non-renewable.

To be eligible, you must already be engaged in (or accepted into) your unpaid, off-campus internship position. To receive an award, you must complete a minimum of 120 hours at the internship site and have an assigned supervisor for your work.
