Class activities and presentations can be video recorded in both Jones 30 and 35.
In Jones 30, recording is done remotely by Language Center Classroom Support staff. There is one pan-tilt-zoom camera installed and one wide-area microphone.
Recordings are saved to computer with a DVD backup. Computer files can be shared with instructors almost immediately through Media Mill. Instructors who would like a DVD copy of the recording should bring in their own media.

In Jones 35, instructors are now able to record themselves. Choose from one of two cameras -- a wall-mounted camera at the back of the classroom which gives a good view of the instructor podium, white board or class overview or a web conference camera mounted on the instructor's podium which is good for capturing class or meeting activities. Recordings are set up directly from the instructor's computer and can be saved quickly to Kaltura MediaSpace. Two clip-on wireless mikes are available to record sound. There is also a wide area microphone available through the web conference camera.
Recordings in Jones 35 are made using Kaltura CaptureSpace Desktop Recorder. This application lets you choose your video and audio sources and offers a number of recording options.
- Presentations & Lectures: records the instructor desktop or PowerPoint presentation plus video and audio
- Screen: screen capture plus audio
- Screen & Webcam: screen capture plus video and audio
- Webcam: video and audio
- Voice: just audio
A popular recording option, Presentations & Lectures, will allow you to simultaneously record the video and audio from one of the two available sources along with either the instructor computer desktop or a PowerPoint file that you load into the application.
Viewing Recordings Made using Presentations & Lectures Option
The Kaltura video player is very powerful. Viewers can choose to view either of the sources in full screen, each of the sources half screen or picture in picture. With the picture in picture option, you can select which source is full screen and move the smaller video window anywhere on the video player as well as change its size.
