Wall Street Journal Features Lee Opinion Piece on Polygenic Screening

In a Wall Street Journal article titled, “Imagine a Future Without Sex; Reproductive technology may lead us to realize too late that being human is better than playing God,” James Lee, PhD, associate professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Minnesota, explores the dangers of using polygenic screening to compare the genetic profiles of embryos in order to select for certain preferences.

Lee asks if you had the ability to raise your child’s IQ, would you? While exploring different ramifications of polygenic screening in combination with IVF technology, Lee feels that it would be best to ban polygenic screening before our science grows beyond our human understanding of its implications.
