Psychology Advising Announcements
1. Psychology Study Room Closed Thursday Afternoon
The Psychology Study Room (N121) & Community Room (N118) in the Psychology Advising Corridor will be closed from 11:00-2:00 pm on Thursday, February 15th due to a department event. The rooms will reopen at 2:00 pm, and will continue with normal hours (8:00am-4:30pm) after that. We apologize for any inconvenience that this causes!
2. THIS WEEK - Transfer Students: You're Invited to a Pizza Party!

Hello Psychology transfer students! Whether you have started to get involved on campus or not, we would like to help aid in your transition. Psychology Undergraduate Advising invites you to attend the Psychology Transfer Welcome Party for transfer students in the Psychology major. Use this time to learn more about opportunities available to you in the community and on campus, ask Psychology Advisors and Student Groups questions about your major or ways to get involved, get to know your peers, and enjoy some of the area’s unique pizzas! We’ll have options from the famous Mesa Pizza (a staple to the U of M student experience), Pizza Luce, and more. Please RSVP by Monday, February 12th. If you require gluten-free, vegetarian, or other dietary accommodations, please note this in your RSVP—we can order a pizza for you from Pizza Luce.

3. TODAY: PISA Bake Sale - Cupcakes for Valentine's Day

Are you still thinking about a present for Valentine's Day? The Psychology International Student Association will have our Bake Sale event on February 13th at Moos Tower! We will be selling cupcakes with various toppings, and you can even customize your cupcakes using a pre-order (please contact us for more information). We are looking forward to seeing you at our Bake Sale event and we do accept both Vemno and cash!
4. IOPC Event: Meet & Greet

5. Apply for Psi Chi, the International Honor Society in Psychology!
Psi Chi is the International National Honor Society in Psychology. It's a great way to improve your resume and become eligible for new opportunities within the field of psychology. We are taking applications now, and they are due March 28th. Visit the Psychology Student Organization page to find out more about becoming a member.
6. Ted Talk Night with Psych Club/Psi Chi

Psych Club will be hosting their second meeting of the year on February 21st at 5pm in N227 (Skinner Room). We will be watching and discussing interesting Ted Talks. Feel free to submit your own ideas for Ted Talks!

8. U of M Job & Internship Fair

The University of Minnesota offers the biggest student career fair in Minnesota! The fair is open to all U of M undergraduates and recent alumni. Disability accommodations available upon request. 10. Careers in Law Fair

Come join University Student Legal Services, Pre-Law Society, and CLA Career Services for the annual Careers in Law Fair!
The fair will be held Wednesday, February 28th, 11am - 2pm in the Willey Hall Atrium. This is a great opportunity to speak with representatives from law schools, government agencies, paralegal programs, nonprofits, criminal justice organizations, political offices, and LSAT prep programs. Stop by any time to learn and ask questions about graduate school requirements, volunteer programs, internship experiences, and professions in the legal community.
This fair is not only for students considering law school, but for anyone considering a career related to the legal field. Registration is not required!

11. Deadline Approaching: $500! Apply for the Spring 2018 Psychology Engagement Award
Application Deadline is TOMORROW: February 14th
Are you participating in an internship here or abroad this spring semester? Or engaging in a learning opportunity that takes you outside of the classroom for a unique experience? The Department of Psychology's Donor Awards for Psychology Undergraduate Engagement are available to support you! The purpose of these awards is to encourage and support psychology majors who engage in learning experiences beyond the University campus and classroom environments (i.e. unpaid internships, volunteer experiences, study abroad containing a psych-related internship or research component, etc.). Up to two awards of $500 will be offered for Spring 2018.

Learning Abroad
12. Psychology & Research in Madrid Summer 2018 Deadline Extension!
Application Deadline is now March 15th!
Students interested in the courses only track of this program are able to apply through March 15th. The courses only track allows students to take Introduction to Biological Psychology and Cross-Cultural Psychology for a total of 6 credits.
The program has been developed in partnership with the University of Minnesota's Psychology Department and the Fundación Ortega-Marañon in Madrid. Students live in homestays or residence halls and take courses at our centrally located study center. For eligibility requirements and more information please visit the program webpage.

15. U of M Job and Internship Fair Preparation Workshops

Do you want to attend the UMN Job & Internship Fair on Feb. 26th but you're not sure what to do when you're there? Attend this workshop for answers and advice from CLA Career Services staff and employers. We'll tell you about the employers attending and how to conduct research on those organizations and their available jobs and internships. A few employers attending the fair will be at the workshop to answer your questions. Tips include how to dress, what to bring with you to the fair, and how to quickly make a good impression. 16. Apply by March 1st: New M.A. in Special Ed. with A.B.A. Emphasis
Interested in grad school next fall? There's still time to apply to the M.A. in special education with an emphasis in applied behavior analysis (A.B.A.). According to the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development, 11.2% of people in Minnesota and 13.1% of people in the United States are living with some kind of disability. That's roughly one in 10. This new program addresses the growing need to help people with disabilities make positive changes in their behavior leading to more fulfilling lives. If you enjoy helping others and are looking for a volunteer experience next year, this is a great fit for you: De-stress is recruiting graduate and undergraduate students to be Peer Helpers for the 2018-2019 school year. Must be available for training every Tuesday from 9:00-11:00am for Fall 2018. Candidates with marginalized identities strongly encouraged to apply. 18. Yale Cognition & Development Lab Summer 2018 Internship

Applications for the Yale Cognition & Development Lab's 2018 summer research internship program are now available on this website!
Our annual summer internship provides the opportunity for highly motivated undergraduate students to gain an intensive, hands-on research experience in close partnership with our full-time lab members. Opportunities are available both to study developmental psychology and adult cognition. Interns might also run studies on, and work to further develop, our online platform TheChildLab.com. Complete information about our research and internship program, as well as required application materials and an FAQ, can be downloaded from our website.
This year's internship will run from Monday, June 4 to Friday, July 27, 2018. For full consideration, all applications and materials should be received no later than Friday, March 2, 2018. 19. Psychiatry Research Coordinator Position at the University of Chicago
The University of Chicago is looking for candidates for a Psychiatry Research Coordinator position. The lab primarily works with addictive, compulsive and impulsive disorders. Main duties subject interviews for treatment, imaging, and observational studies; working with large datasets for data entry and analysis; running MRI scans; coordinating with study sponsors; writing and/or editing manuscripts and presenting research. A Bachelor's degree is required; prior experience in clinical research or work in mental health is strongly preferred.

20. Camp Kesem Volunteer Position
Camp Kesem at University of Minnesota is currently seeking college students to volunteer as counselors this coming summer! Camp Kesem provides year-round support for children affected by a parent's cancer by hosting a free, week-long summer camp experience. At camp, children play games, sing songs, and have the time of their lives while being surrounded by peers with similar life experiences. Through volunteering with Kesem, college students gain volunteer experience, learn strategies to support children, and form lasting relationships with like-minded peers. This year, our camp sessions are from July 17th through the 23rd and August 19th through the 25th. Interested applicants should be available during the entire duration of either session of camp.
