Early Voting in Minnesota

Headshot of Dr. Chris Federico

Early voting has seemingly been the norm for this election, but why has there been so much early voting? Christopher Federico, PhD, professor in the Departments of Political Science and Psychology at the University of Minnesota, points out that safety (with regards to the pandemic) and enthusiasm or fear of voter suppression have been some reasons for in-person early voting. In a CBS Minnesota article titled “Who is Voting Early in Minnesota?” Federico notes that despite seeing large numbers of early voting, we cannot determine how this will affect the final result.
