Federico on the Aftermath of the US Election

Headshot of Dr. Chris Federico

With each presidential election, comes the mourning of the part of the nation whose candidate did not win. In a CNN Health article titled, “Nearly half of the US may be mourning the election. Here's what can help,” Christopher Federico, PhD, professor in the Departments of Political Science and Psychology at the University of Minnesota, talks about the growing polarization of American politics. This increasing polarization between the parties, leads to the feeling of higher stakes and loss when the other party is elected as they represent a very different platform. The article suggests allowing yourself to grieve if upset over the election, and focus on people and issues that you care about.
