Helwig on the Three Important Variables for a Smile and What it Means for Gov DeSantis

Headshot of Dr. Nate Helwig

In a recent Slate article “Why Does Ron DeSantis’ Smile Make So Many People Want to Jump Off a Cliff?” Nathaniel Helwig states three important variables for a smile to be well received: the width, the angles at the corners of the mouth, and the number of teeth showing. According to Helwig, changing the way a person smiles is possible as the majority of people can do with enough practice and training by learning new muscle memory patterns.
