Juan Del Toro Receives Award from the American Educational Research Association
We are excited to share that Juan Del Toro was selected to receive the 2024 American Educational Research Association’s (AERA) Palmer O. Johnson Memorial Award. This award was given in recognition of Del Toro’s article, “Police Stops and School Engagement: Examining Cultural Socialization From Parents and Schools as Protective Factors Among African American Adolescents.” This award recognizes the most outstanding article published in AERA journals during the award period, including AERA Open, American Educational Research Journal (AERJ), Educational Evaluation and Policy Analysis (EEPA), Educational Researcher (ER), or Journal of Educational and Behavioral Statistics (JEBS). Award selection is based on the article’s “significance of the contribution to advancing knowledge, methodological sophistication and rigor, and uniqueness in terms of problem specification or approach.”
Del Toro will be honored during the AERA Awards Ceremony and Celebration at the 2024 AERA Annual Meeting in Philadelphia, PA on Friday, April 12, 2024.
