Minnesota Teachers of Psychology in Secondary Schools Conference
On May 10, 2024, the Department of Psychology hosted 50 psychology high school teachers from all over Minnesota. Michael Berndt, a psychology teacher at Apollo High School in St. Cloud, MN, organized the Minnesota Teachers of Psychology in Secondary Schools (MNTOPSS) conference with psychology faculty Randy Fletcher, Liza Meredith, and Cheryl Olman.
Bonnie Klimes-Dougan delivered a keynote on “Depression and Self-Harm in Adolescents.” Afterward, the Minnesota psychology teachers had the opportunity to join various sessions:
- Andrew Oxenham and Ben Eisenreich provided a research overview and tour of the CATSS Lab
- Reed Priest from I-O Psychology used an interactive basketball game to explain bias in selection processes
- Emily Allen shared fMRI research
- Amanda Woodward provided information about Open Science.
This professional development opportunity gives high school psychology teachers an insight into the current work of our department's various labs, programs, and areas.
