Rich Lee Interviewed by MPR at the Minnesota State Fair

Rich Lee

On August 22, 2024, Rich Lee, faculty, was interviewed at the Minnesota Public Radio (MPR) booth at the Minnesota State Fair, where he discussed the importance of young readers seeing themselves represented in the books they read. Lee, a Distinguished McKnight University Professor of Psychology and Director of the Asian American Studies program, draws upon his scholarship to co-create, along with his brother Martin Lee "The Other Ones by Lee." The Other Ones by Lee is a daily comic published online that highlights BIPOC experiences and serves as a resource for addressing race-related trauma and fostering healing.

Books are powerful tools for bonding and introducing children to the world. As parents and caregivers, it's important to intentionally share stories that feature diverse characters and are written by authors of color. It's particularly impactful when children see themselves in the stories they read. MPR spoke with local children's book authors Dr. Rich Lee and Dr. Artika Tyner about their work in creating and curating diverse stories for young readers.
