What policies and laws affect my data?
Some data are protected under law and are subject to specific security requirements. For example:
Medical or health care data are protected under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
Student records and grades are protected under the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
Information produced under some federal grants requires compliance with the Federal Information Security Modernization Act (FISMA).
