Laura Garbes Named Co-recipient of the 2023 ASA Dissertation Award
UMN Sociology Postdoctoral Fellow Laura Garbes is the co-recipient of the 2023 American Sociological Association (ASA) Dissertation Award for “Racialized Airwaves: Tracing the sonic color line in the American public radio industry.” The dissertation focuses on National Public Radio (NPR) and investigates the tension between the intention of reaching diverse audiences and the reality that NPR centers a white majority in its content, audience, and leadership.
