Congratulations to UMN Sociology Associate Professor Michelle Phelps who has been awarded the American Society of Criminology (ASC)'s 2023 Joan Petersilia Outstanding Article Award in recognition of her publication “We’re Still Dying Quicker Than We Can Effect Change”: #BlackLivesMatter and the Limits of 21st-Century Policing Reform, American Journal of Sociology, 127(3), 867–903, 2022 (co-authors include PhD Candidate Christopher E. Robertson & PhD Alumna Assistant Professor Amber Joy Powell).

The Joan Petersilia Outstanding Article Award honors exceptional contributions made by scholars in article form. The award is given annually for the peer-reviewed article that makes the most outstanding contribution to research in criminology.
