Since anthropology is the study of who we are and how we came to be, our program highlights evolutionary, historical, and cultural, and linguistic perspectives from human societies across the world, and emphasizes human relationships with the nonhuman world.
Our department offers a diverse curriculum that examines humanity through multiple subdisciplinary fields, emphasizing themes such as politics, history, race, diversity, gender, biology, and language.
Our faculty teaches in all four of the primary four fields of anthropology (archaeology, biological anthropology, linguistic anthropology, and sociocultural anthropology) and both BA and BS students are required to take courses in at least three of the four subfields.
Once you’ve taken the required courses, you may choose to focus your elective coursework on a particular subfield. However, as a four-field program, we recommend that you explore courses in at least three of four subfields to take full advantage of the breadth of training that anthropology offers.
