February 8-10, 2019

The twenty-fifth annual University of Minnesota High School Honor Band weekend will be held on campus beginning Friday afternoon, February 8, 2019 at 4 pm and will conclude with a concert on Sunday afternoon, February 10, 2019 at 1:30 pm in Ted Mann Concert Hall. This is an outstanding opportunity for 90 of the Upper Midwest’s finest high school wind and percussion instrumentalists in grades 10, 11, and 12 to rehearse and perform challenging music in a concentrated setting.

Eligibility and Audition Requirements
High school students in grades 10–12 are eligible to participate. Each student must be recommended by a band director and should be an outstanding instrumentalist capable of performing class A literature. Each applicant must submit an online application and email an mp3 recording containing three to five total minutes of playing. Each audio file must be clearly labeled with the student’s name, instrument, and selections. Selections should include a slow legato work and a contrasting etude or movement of a technical nature. Percussionists should perform on at least two different instruments of their choice. Applicants who wish to audition for more than one instrument must submit a separate music file for each instrument. 

  • Applicants must submit an Application and a Recording and have their teacher complete a Director's Recommendation.
  • Applications DUE at 11:59 pm on Thursday, November 1, 2018.
  • Accepted students will be invited to an optional Band Experience Day the evening of Tuesday, December 11.
Honor Band Fee:
$190 – for participants that require housing
$150 – for participants that do not require housing
This fee covers instruction, venue rental, meals, supplies and housing expenses (if applicable).
