Real-World Experience

The Department of History offers undergraduate students a wide variety of opportunities to work with professors outside the classroom, obtain real world experience, and become more engaged, well-rounded members of the community. Below are just a few of the ways that students can become involved with work outside of their studies at the University:

• Internships
  • There are multiple internship opportunities made available to students. Internships provide students with work or academic experience that will serve them well in the future.
• National History Day
  • Every year, National History Day in Minnesota is co-sponsored by the University and the Department of History. National History Day provides undergraduates a chance to interact with the local community and help younger students discover a love of history.
• Undergraduate Research
  • Students can gain valuable research experience as undergraduates by participating in hands-on historical research for themselves. University-wide and department-specific opportunities exist for undergraduates to work closely with faculty members on an independent study project or to fill a class slot by pursuing a topic of close interest to them.
