Service Learning

The Department of Philosophy's optional concentration in ethics and civic life integrates service learning and coursework. In addition to taking several courses covering topics ranging from political to moral philosophy, students who choose the ethics and civic life concentration complete a community service component.

The community service component may be completed through:

  • a practicum course in philosophy
  • a community service component of a course such as PHIL 3307—Social Justice and Community Service (which requires at least three hours of community service per week)
  • a directed study in philosophy with a community service component
