Resources for Alumni

Alumni are a vibrant part of our College and we appreciate your engagement now more than ever. In CLA Career Services we serve alumni for up to one year after graduation, and also welcome the ongoing support of our alumni in helping to foster connections for current students.

Which describes you?

I am seeking career help from CLA Career Services and graduated within the last year

We’re still here for you. We know this is an uncertain time and you may have many questions. Our supportive career counseling team is able to serve CLA alumni who are one year out from graduation or less.

I am seeking career help from CLA Career Services but graduated more than a year ago

Although our counselors are not able to meet with alumni who are more than one year out from graduation, here are a few UMN resources that are available to you as an alumnus, as well as resources outside the UMN that you may want to access:

I am a CLA alumni and want to recruit or support current students during this time
As a CLA alum, you have a valuable perspective to offer current students always, and especially during this time. Below are a few ideas for how you can help right now:

  1. Post internship, full-time, part-time, volunteer opportunities on Handshake. Students are actively searching for internships, full-time positions, ways to gain meaningful experience, and virtual events. Let us know when you’ve posted your opportunities and we can share those through various communication channels that reach CLA students. Learn more information about Handshake.
  2. Connect with Students:
    1. Join the Maroon & Gold Network a free, online platform from the Alumni Association for career-related advice, networking, and mentorship for students, alumni, and the University of Minnesota community.
    2. Join the CLA LinkedIn Group to connect with the 8500+ members.
  3. Share Your Story! Share advice and insights with current students through a testimonial, words of advice, or feature story. To be featured, complete this brief form (select 'Alumni Testimonial') and provide responses to the prompts. Please let us know if you are not able to access the form or have already prepared content and/or images you'd like to share.
  4. Engage with Students through CLA Career Services: In addition to our regular career programming, we are preparing a variety of on-demand resources to equip students with the best possible support to navigate what’s next in the changing employment landscape. Learn more about ways to engage beyond CLA Career Services. Want to help, but not sure where to start? Let us know your interests by completing this brief information form, and we'll follow up!
  5. Help CLA Students Gain Experience: CLA students, now more than ever, are seeking ways to gain experience...remotely. Consider these two options:
    1. Remote Internships — Remote internships can provide meaningful learning opportunities for students. Review this Remote Internships: Tips for Success resource sheet to see an overview of best practices in offering remote internships.
    2. Micro-Experiences — Micro-experiences are short-term experiences that give students initial insights into a position or career of interest. They are a way to start small with building experience—which can make them easier to fit into a students busy schedule. Learn more information or post a project.
