Degree Types
Most CLA students graduate with a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree. However, CLA also offers Bachelor of Music (BMus), Bachelor of Science (BS), Bachelor of Individualized Studies (BIS), and Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degrees. The degree you receive will be determined by the major program you choose to follow.
Requirements for a CLA degree vary slightly depending on the program you choose to follow. All students are required to complete liberal education requirements as the basis of their degree program. All BA and BIS degrees, regardless of major, require students to complete CLA's second language requirement.
Majors
Your major is your area of specialization. CLA offers over 60 majors. You may also design your own major or degree.
There are several resources to help you choose and confirm your choice of major.
- Meet with your academic advisor to discuss options for study. Or visit CLA Career Services for resources and information about exploring majors.
- The Center for Academic Planning & Exploration (CAPE) provides personalized one-to-one coaching to help students develop an Action Plan to aid in your major and career decision-making process.
- Explore the connection between your major and your career goals through the "What Can I Do with this Major" resource prepared by the CLA Career Services office.
Minors
Completing a minor is optional. Most CLA majors are also offered as minors. CLA also offers a number of freestanding minors that do not have a corresponding major.
