Music Therapy Non-Masters Equivalency

The School of Music offers an equivalency program for those students who have completed a bachelor’s degree in music (BA, BMus, or BS) or another emphasis who wish to become a music therapist. Applicants must have an excellent scholastic record with an overall degree GPA of at least 3.0 from an accredited, approved college/university.

Step 1: Apply to the School of Music

January 23 & February 6, 2021 - remote interviews for Fall 2021 entrance

A complete application includes:

  • Online Application
  • Unofficial copy(s) of all relevant transcripts from all post-secondary institutions uploaded to the application at the time of submission. Official transcripts will be requested upon admission to the program and due prior to enrollment.
  • Three current letters of recommendation from relevant references. The application will collect the email addresses of your recommenders and contact them on your behalf.
  • $45 Non-Refundable Music Application Fee.  
    Applicants who meet specific financial circumstances as self-identified on their application will qualify for a fee waiver.

STEP 2: Interview  

Applicants must complete a 15-minute interview with the music therapy faculty via Zoom on the formal interview dates for their desired term of entry. Interviews will take place between 8 am - 8 pm Central Standard Time on the formal interview date they select on their application. Interviews are not available outside these formal dates. You will be asked to submit a printed copy of your responses to the Music Education/Music Therapy Interview Profile at the time of your interview.
