Transfer Students

Students must apply and be accepted to the University of Minnesota College of Liberal Arts in order to declare a political science major. When you attend transfer orientation, the advising team will discuss the major declaration process.

Overview for Transfer Students

We know that transferring credit can be a stressful and confusing process, and we want to help. If you are a transfer student or thinking of transferring in credit, we strongly encourage you to contact political science undergraduate advising at [email protected] sooner rather than later. The advisors want to discuss your transfer courses and if any political science classes need to be reviewed by the department. A course may be reviewed by Admissions and appear as a political science class, but if it has not been reviewed by the department, it cannot be guaranteed how/if the course will count towards the major/minor. This may not be clear and the advising team wants to help sort through the details with you.
