Welcome from the Peer Advisor
My name is Cali Wery and I will be the Peer Adviser for this academic school year. I am a senior earning my B.S. degree with a major in Sociology LCD and minors in Leadership, Youth Studies, and Political Science. I am hoping to pursue a career in social work and am currently applying to several Masters of Social Work (MSW) programs throughout the country. I am always open to talking about social justice, environmental justice, and inclusivity, as I am very passionate about these topics. As your peer adviser, I hope to be a useful resource to achieve your goals, both academically and personally. I am here to listen and provide support, so don’t be shy! As a student myself, I really enjoy connecting with other students.
I am originally from a small town outside of Madison, Wisconsin, but moved to the Twin Cities in 2017 to pursue my Bachelor’s Degree here at the U. I participated in a freshman seminar abroad in Dublin, Ireland, and could not be more supportive of learning abroad. I also participated in the Dean’s Freshman Research and Creative Scholars (DFRACS) Program during my first year at the U and was able to conduct research with a faculty member in the School of Music. I served as both a College of Liberal Arts Student Ambassador and First-Year Experience Section Leader, and I am very passionate about liberal arts education. If you are thinking of getting involved in any of these programs, feel free to contact me with any questions, and I can share my experiences with you.
Outside of my academic work, I am involved in the Dance Collective, I sit on the executive board of the University of Minnesota Sociological Association (UMSA) and I volunteer at People Serving People - a supportive family shelter in downtown Minneapolis. My hobbies include dance, music, reading, and spending time with my friends and family. I look forward to getting to know you as your Peer Adviser this year!
