Freshman Scholarships

Scholarships are available for all theatre and dance undergraduate programs. For more information about these scholarships visit the CLA Incoming Freshman Scholarships webpage. Upon your admission to the College of Liberal Arts, you are automatically considered for CLA scholarships based on information from your application for admission to the University of Minnesota. There is no separate application for CLA scholarships for incoming freshmen. You are also encouraged to fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

BA Theatre Arts Program Scholarships

Students interested in declaring a BA in Theater Arts major may be eligible for merit and need-based recruitment scholarships. These two- to four-year awards range from $1,000 to $6,000 per academic year.

  • Fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and indicate an interest in theatre arts on your UMN CLA entrance application
  • Declare their theatre major in their freshman year.
  • Complete Theatre 1101, 1321, 1501, and 1322 in their first year of study.

Returning Theatre Arts Awards

Every year, due to the generosity of dedicated community members, the Department of Theatre Arts and Dance provides a one-time monetary award to outstanding, meritoriously deserving students. Financial need may also be considered. Award recipients are selected by the department faculty and staff from a pool of applications submitted by students each year. Awards generally range from $250 to $3,000 each.

All Theatre Arts and Dance major and minor undergraduate students enrolled full-time in courses during the following school year are eligible to apply.  Applications are sent out via departmental email lists in early spring semester.
