MA in Rhetoric and Scientific & Technical Communication

See our current Graduate Handbook. (opens Google document)

The master of arts (MA) in rhetoric and scientific & technical communication prepares students for doctoral-level research through courses and seminars in research methods, rhetoric, writing studies and pedagogies, and technical communication. Those are complemented with courses in a customizable specialty area and outside the department to ensure students complete the degree with a broad base of knowledge. The MA is a full-time, residential two-year program.

In fall of the second year, students making satisfactory progress are invited to apply to continue to the PhD program. MA courses transfer to the PhD upon admission. If you are considering applying for the MA program, review our application requirements.
