Geography Advising and Major Declaration

Students and Prospective students are encouraged to meet with the geography adviser to discuss any of the following:

• Explore Geography and how it can help you meet you personal and career goals
• Major declaration
• Course selection
• Study Abroad Planning
• Transfer courses and petitions
• Graduation planning
• Career and graduate school planning
• Academic support and student resources

Geography Adviser and Advising Availability

Ivan Bialostosky is the advisor for the geography BA, BS, and minor programs. 

During the semester, in-person advising is available on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. 

Mondays and Fridays are zoom only. Any appointment on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday can also be scheduled on Zoom.

In the summer all advising appointment are zoom by default. However, if you want to meet in person during the summer please email Ivan at [email protected] to request in person advising. I will do my best to accomodate requests for in-person advising.

Declare

To Declare a Geogaphy major or minor, make an advising appointment with the geography adviser at z.umn.edu/geogappts. In the appointment we can go over the Geography APAS and see how the courses you have taken already fit within the degree, discuss degree planning and time to degree, answer any questions you have about the major, and get you declared.
