Finnish Connection Scholarship

The Finnish Connection scholarship provides $1,500 to an undergraduate student of Finnish studying abroad in Finland. The award is contingent on being accepted into a Learning Abroad Center (LAC) program and the ability to travel between North America and Europe. The scholarship is awarded on the basis of merit with some consideration given to financial need. Priority is given to students who have not previously received a scholarship from the department.

Eligible candidates:

  • Must be a current, full-time undergraduate enrolled in the College of Liberal Arts
  • Must have a minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Must have completed at least one Finnish language course at UMN
  • Must have demonstrated financial need

Application Instructions:

The deadline for applications is March 29, 2024 at 9am. The following materials are required: 

  1. Application form 
  2. A one- to two-page, single-spaced statement detailing
    1. why you are applying for this scholarship
    2. what your current academic and career goals are
    3. how you intend to use the scholarship
    4. what your financial need is
  3. A letter of support from a UMN Finnish instructor
