Non-Paper Prize Project

Application Procedure & Eligibility Requirements

Eligibility is limited to undergraduate history majors with excellent scholastic records, who have taken at least two upper-division classes in history during the preceding calendar year.

This is a prize for significant class projects produced in a History class at the University of Minnesota that are NOT traditional research papers. We will consider any work that seems to you comparable in time and effort to produce a cumulative paper in a class.

Eligible projects might include:

  • Storymaps/Digital Storytelling
  • Documentary films
  • Websites
  • Museum exhibits
  • Creative Art
  • Podcasts
  • Other ideas are welcome

Projects must have been completed in the previous Fall, Summer, or Spring Semester (i.e. for the Spring 2021 prize, the paper must be from Fall, Summer, or Spring 2020).

The department is eager to reward our best student work that is NOT produced as a formal paper. If you think might qualify (group projects also welcome so long as one member of the group is a declared history major/minor).

Prize Applications Should Consist of:

  1. The project in some form the committee can access.
  2. The prize cover sheet (obtain from histugs@umn.edu).
  3. The non-paper prize submission is due by the first Monday in March.
