Woodwind & Brass Auditions
All students who would like to participate in University Wind Ensemble, University Symphony Orchestra, University Philharmonic Orchestra, University Band, and/or Symphonic Band need to audition. For Campus Bands and Campus Orchestras, simply register and attend the first class meeting to take the class. Please contact us by email at this address with any questions or concerns.
Fall 2024 Audition Information
Fall 2024 auditions for University Wind Ensemble, University Symphony Orchestra, and Symphonic Band will take place in-person September 3-5, 2024. University Band and University Philharmonic Orchestra auditions will take place on September 5, 2024. See audition information below.

To register for an audition, fill out the Ensemble Audition Registration Form. Course registration for auditioned ensembles will only occur after completion of a successful audition and permissions are entered. Auditioned ensembles begin fall rehearsals the week of September 9, 2024.
Students auditioning on woodwind and brass instruments should prepare one or more of the following audition materials - click on ensemble names below to access packets. For questions about the appropriate materials to prepare, consult with your applied studio teacher or a School of Music student advisor.
University Wind Ensemble / University Symphony Orchestra
- All woodwind and brass students interested in UWE or USO are required to prepare the full UWE/USO packet. Students auditioning for UWE/USO will also be eligible for placement in Symphonic Band and University Band and do not need to schedule a separate SB/UB audition.
- All woodwind and brass students placed in the UWE/USO "pool" will participate in University Wind Ensemble; select musicians will also be assigned parts in University Symphony Orchestra.
Symphonic Band / University Band
- Students interested in Symphonic Band (SB) or University Band (UB) should prepare the SB/UB packet. Students preparing these materials will not be eligible for placement in USO or UWE.
University Philharmonic Orchestra
- All woodwind and brass students interested in University Philharmonic Orchestra (UPO) should prepare the UPO packet. Students preparing these materials will not be eligible for placement in USO or any concert bands.
