School of Music ensembles are open to all University of Minnesota students, both music majors and non-majors. Some ensembles require a successful audition in order to register for the course.
Ensemble auditions are offered twice per academic year. Fall auditions are held the first week of classes in September, and mid-year auditions are held in early December for students joining in the spring semester.

Non-Auditioned Ensembles
Ensembles that do not require an audition include the following groups. To join these ensembles, register for the course and attend the first class meeting.
- Campus Bands
- Gospel Choir
- Campus Singers
- Campus Orchestras
- World Music Ensemble
- West African Music Ensemble

Ensemble auditions are organized by instrument. For auditioned ensembles, you will be required to register for an audition and prepare specified audition materials to perform in a live audition. Please visit the following pages for information regarding the audition process:
Fall audition results will be sent via email at the end of the first week of classes. Spring audition results will be sent out via email in mid-December. Course permissions for auditioned ensembles are entered after a successful audition result.
